From this week to the end of the month is the perfect time to start a vegtable garden.  Gardening is a great hobby and popular too. It is nice to grow fresh vegetables and I can grow an impressive amount of produce on my postage stamp sized city lot.  Gardening is like real estate in that it is local. If you are new to gardening here are some local resources that I think you will like.

The university of Minnesota extension and they have classes too.  The site is worth exploring it has a lot of information about plant care and can help with identifying weeds.

Last month, Palo Altos Mountain View Voice published a story about concerns over toxic chemicals at a former military housing complex. The focus has been on Orion Park ever since trichloroethylene has been found in the groundwater and from air samples taken from buildings on the site. The TCE is believed to have contaminated the area from its years of military use.

Last September, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released their final health assessment for TCE.

It’s the sort of thing that might sound like WSIGAC — why should I give a carp — but consumer advocates suggest paying attention. Agents in Maryland are supposed to give you a disclosure form to sign at your first appointment with them so you understand who they (and their bosses) are actually representing at the negotiating table.

Are they a seller’s agent or a cooperating agent in the transaction? Then their “duty of loyalty” is to the seller alone, the state says.

It is Friday and Fridays are for fun.  It is spring and I am too busy to have fun but I can still think about it.  I will work many 16 hour days. This weekend will have it’s share of real estate emergencies.  Did you know that people have real estate emergencies?  They suddenly and unexpectedly find themselves in town and they have to see a home but they only have exactly one hour to do so and that hour is during one of my other appointments when I am supposed to be having dinner with my family.     <

PHILADELPHIA Spring arrived very early this year in much of the country, bringing what traditionally is the best time to buy and sell real estate, even through the downturn.

Issues of tight credit linger, and median home prices continue to decline, though more slowly. Yet there appear to be enough positive indicators to push once-reluctant sellers into the market.

Among those pluses: record-low fixed interest rates for mortgages and the highest affordability levels since record-keeping began in the 1970s.

For sellers, it is time for real estate theater.

Last month, the median price – the point where half of homes sell for less and half sell for more – was $125,000, unchanged from January. Still, that number represents a nearly 9 percent drop from February 2011, according to the realtors association’s monthly report.

Inventory dropped a bit in February compared with January. There were 4,560 active listings in February, which is down from 4,840 the previous month. Inventory is also down 34 percent compared with February of last year.

Sales were stronger last month.
